The Danish National U19 team hosted Schwitzerland at Elsinore Stadium in a qualifier for the EJC in Spain this summer.

The 1. quarter was dominated by the Danes, who intercepted a Swiss pass and returned it to the Swiss 2 yard line. After 2 running plays the Danes took the lead on a run by RB Esben Fogh. The extra point was no good, and the Danes were ahead 6-0.

Both teams stalled after the score, and the ball possession kept switching back and forth. But suddenly the Danish offensive line opened a huge gap, and RB Esben Fogh scored his second TD of the day on a 23 yard run. The danes looked like they were taking control of the game.

The Danish defense kept the Swiss offense from gaining any yards throughout the half, but the Danish offense seemed out of sync. Suddenly Danish RB Thomas Feer ignited a spark by returning a punt for TD, but the TD was called back because of a penalty. But that play was a kickstart and Denmark drove down the field, mostly relying upon the running of RB Thomas Feer. On the last play of the drive RB Thomas Feer ran in the football for a touchdown from the Swiss 4 yard line. The Danes were ahead 20-0.

The second opened with another good play from the Danish offense, as RB Thomas Feer caught a pass and ran 70 yards for a TD on the first offensive play. 27-0 in Denmarks favor. The Danes seemed to be able to run and pass against the Swiss team, and they scored another TD in the 3rd quarter as RB Lars Bo Kjær ran in another Danish rushing TD. The Danes seemed totally in control.

But in the final quarter the Swiss scored the lone TD, as LB Sergio Fontana recovered a Danish fumble in the endzone. After this the game didn’t gain that much momentum as the Danes cruised to the finish line. In the end they won 34-6.

The Danish head coach Lars Carlsen was enthusiastic after the game: “We got what we came for, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.”

The Swiss head coach was disappointed, but still realistic: “We got out-coached and out-played today. The Danes are a very good team. But we will keep fighting and there is always a new tournament. Maybe someday we will beat the Danish team.”
